We were hoping to capture some real-world wisdom by putting three CEOs –Bill Facteau of Earlens, Bob Paulson of NxThera and John Stevens of HeartFlow– on a panel to share reimbursement war stories. Many of those attending the May 31st Medtech Conference think we got our wish.

Bill Facteau is a medical device executive with 25 years’ experience. He currently is the President and CEO of Earlens Corp, which is focused on transforming the hearing aid industry with its novel and proprietary light-based technology. Prior to joining Earlens, Mr. Facteau served as President and CEO of Acclarent, the company that created Balloon Sinuplasty, which was ultimately acquired by JNJ for $800M. Mr. Facteau has served as a Board Director on a number of successfully acquired ventures including Acclarent, Neotract, CVI, Cabachon and ExploraMed.

NxThera
Bob Paulson is president, CEO and a director of NxThera, Inc., a venture-funded medical device company that developed and commercialized its convective water vapor energy technology platform to treat enlarged prostates and other endourology conditions. In March of 2018, Boston Scientific announced an agreement to acquire NxThera following receipt of applicable regulatory approvals. Bob joined NxThera in 2009 after serving as President, CEO and a Director of Restore Medical from 2005 until the company’s acquisition by Medtronic in July of 2008. Bob served as CFO and VP of Global Marketing for Endocardial Solutions, which was acquired by St. Jude Medical in 2005, the Sr. VP/General Manager of Advanced Bionics and several executive positions with Medtronic, including VP/General Manager of the Surgical Navigation Technologies business, VP Corporate Strategy and Director of Corporate Development. Bob held senior positions in marketing, corporate development, legal and finance at General Mills and practiced corporate, M&A and securities law with the Minneapolis law firm of Lindquist & Vennum. Bob currently serves as a director of Veran Medical and Sun BioPharma, and has been a director of several privately-held and public medical devices companies and charitable foundations, and is a member of the Luther College Board of Regents
John Stevens, MD

Dr. John H. Stevens joined HeartFlow in 2010. He has had a distinguished career as a healthcare professional, and possesses extensive experience in founding and leading technology-focused companies. He was the co-founder and chief technology officer of Heartport; co-founder and executive chairman of Amp Resources; and, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Sundrop Fuels.
Previously, Dr. Stevens was an adult and pediatric cardiac surgeon at Stanford University Hospital and Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital in Stanford, Calif. He received his post-graduate training at Stanford University and The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, England.
Dr. Stevens currently serves on the boards of directors of HeartFlow, Apnicure, Clene Nanomedicine and KaeMe.org, of which he is also the co-founder and executive director. He is also the managing partner of Headwaters Capital Partners.
He received his BS from the University of Utah and MD from the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was also an assistant professor of cardiovascular surgery.
