Mr. Thomas J. Gunderson served as a Managing Director and Senior Research Analyst at Piper Jaffray Companies, Research Division until March 2016. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, he worked for 12 years at American Medical Systems, a private medical device company acquired by Pfizer in 1983. In over 24 years as an Analyst, Mr. Gunderson has been recognized by several industry publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Institutional Investor, Thomson Reuters and First Call. Mr. Gunderson was named by StarMine as the number one Stock Picker in Health Care Equipment and Supplies. In 2010, Thomson Reuters recognized him as one of the Top 10 Overall Earnings Estimators across all stock sectors. Mr. Gunderson covered medical technology stocks within the healthcare sector at the firm. He has been a Director of Merit Medical Systems, Inc. since May 24, 2017. He has been a Director of TransMedics, Inc. since September 1, 2016. Mr. Gunderson is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation since 2015. He is a director of the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation. He is Executive in Residence at the University of Minnesota's Medical Industry Leadership Institute since 2016. He was a member of the American Heart Association's Science and Technology Accelerator Committee from 2015 to 2017. Earlier, he served on the Board of Directors for the Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota Foundation. Mr. Gunderson holds a B.A (biology focus) from Carleton College, a Master's degree in cell biology from the University of Minnesota and a Master's degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas.
